More Improvised Movie Scenes –You Probably Already Know

The Shining

  • The Shining – “Here’s Johnny!” The Shining (1980)
  • The Warriors – “Warriors, come out to play.”
  • Good Will Hunting – Mid-scene the legendary Robin Williams ad-libbed the “farting wife” story.
  • Saving Private Ryan – Ryan’s story about a memory of his brother was a monologue entirely improvised by Matt Damon.
  •  Casablanca – Humphrey Bogart’s “Here’s looking at you, kid.” One of the most famous lines in cinematic history. [Side note: The well-known line “Play it again, Sam” is often improvised by those quoting (rather misquoting) the actual line, “Play it, Sam.”

Dr. Strangelove

  • Dr. Strangelove – “Mein Fuhrer! I can walk.” The iconic and amazing Peter Sellers improvised line, being the last in the movie, consequently changed the ending  Dr. Strangelove (1964)
  • Full Metal Jacket – “Sir what? Were you about to call me an asshole?” Indicative of his raw talent, R. Lee Ermey once a true – blue U.S. Marine Sergeant, improvised most of his dialogue throughout the movie.
  • Animal House – “I’m a zit, get it?”
  • Apocalypse Now – In Brando fashion, “You’re an errand boy sent by a grocery clerk.”
  • A Few Good Men – Jack Nicholson put his own spin on the scripted line, “You already have the truth” to the now infamous and unforgettable ad-libbed line, “You can’t handle the truth.”

This is Spinal Tap

(I saved this one for last because it is one of my all-time favorite lines from a movie.)

…and a few thousand more.
